COMMEMORATIVE 9-1-1 LOCOMOTIVE AT WORK ON NATIONAL FIRST RESPONDERS DAY.
It is well-known within the
industry that Norfolk Southern operates with a deep sense of purpose,
driven by the essential role rail plays
in connecting communities, powering industries, and supporting
environmental sustainability. The
company’s transformation reflects
this commitment— delivering for
customers while investing in people,
technology, and infrastructure that
will shape the future of freight.
As for Atlanta, it is a dynamic
city with a rich history and a spirit
of innovation that aligns with Norfolk Southern’s own SPIRIT values—
and Georgia’s capital will continue
to be a core location for innovation,
operations and technology.
The decision to relocate headquarters to Atlanta was driven
by access to top-tier talent and
a thriving business ecosystem.
Despite the merger and potential
headquarters move to Omaha,
Norfolk Southern says it is committed to Atlanta as a core location for
the combined organization over
the long-term with a focus on
technology, operations and innovation, among other priorities. The
company clearly has tapped into
a broad pool of professionals who
are helping propel the rail industry
forward. It is also actively engaged
with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the Metro Atlanta Chamber
and with local leaders across all
159 counties— contributing to the
state’s overall status as a top place
to do business.
One of many recent examples
of Norfolk Southern’s commitment
is a partnership with City of Refuge
to open a new welding training
center in west Atlanta. Backed
by a $350,000 grant, the center is
providing hands-on training, industry-recognized certifications and
wraparound support services like
transportation assistance, career
coaching and job placement. It’s a
strategic investment in workforce
development that addresses local
labor shortages, supports economic mobility and strengthens the
skilled trades pipeline.
Clearly, this just initiative
underscores Norfolk Southern’s
broader mission: to invest in
people, power communities and
help Georgia’s economy thrive for
decades to come.
