The Tennis Center, the Rome Emperors (an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) and colleges are among the
reasons for tourists’ visits to Rome and Cave Spring. Yes,
there is a cave and a cool water spring and an architectural and otherwise historic city around them. Cave
Spring is also home to the Georgia School for the Deaf,
with boarding students from across the state.

Contributions to Quality of Life
The city of Rome was established in 1832 and Floyd
County 1834; from a cultural and trading center, the
area has steadily grown to more than 100,000 residents.
Historic and current employers, colleges, schools, manufacturers, health care and sports all contribute to the
community’s well-balanced quality of life. Movies and
other media have been made around the area.
The area is planning a $200 million water treatment plant being designed with groundbreaking
scheduled in 2025; area roads and bridges are being
widened and replaced; and four data centers in the
city and the county have been announced.
Rome Middle School’s new building is nearing
completion with a construction cost of $120 million.
Floyd County’s schools are continually being updated,
and Armuchee High School’s complete renovation is
in its final phase. Significantly, both districts’ Milestone Measurements are progressing with noteworthy
achievements and many above-the-state averages.
The Floyd County College and Career Academy was
among the first in Georgia to align education and
career pathways. One curriculum example is robotics, and Pirelli donated robot equipment for the high
school to “do science, not just see science.” Health
careers and other high-demand jobs are focused on
education at Floyd and Rome’s College and Career
Academies.
Continuous improvement in the classroom and on
the Floyd Campus are some of the elements that create the atmosphere and academics that make Georgia
Northwestern Technical College so successful. Dr.
Heidi Popham leads her team across the region with
curriculum and equipment for the ever-changing landscape of good jobs.
Georgia Highlands College’s next campus renovation is to accommodate moving the Health Sciences
Program, including the Augusta University/ Medical
College of Georgia Clinical Campus from its downtown
facility to the main Floyd Campus. Dr. Mike Hobbs
and faculty reach across the region with its liberal arts
