study Israel’s innovation ecosystem
firsthand. Partnership between two
of the world’s leading centers of
technological research and education
represent some of the most exciting
developments in the Georgia-Israel
relationship.
These collaborations go beyond
academics. They foster people-to-people connections that shape future
business leaders, innovators, policymakers and researchers. Georgia
students gain firsthand exposure to
one of the world’s most entrepreneurial societies, while Israeli students
experience the opportunities and
dynamism of the American South.
Political leaders from both parties have also recognized the importance of nurturing this relationship.
Gov. Nathan Deal’s 2014 mission
to Israel helped elevate economic
cooperation to new heights. Gov.
Brian Kemp continued that tradition,
leading a delegation to Israel in 2023
to promote trade and investment
opportunities. Members of the Georgia General Assembly have likewise
traveled to Israel through bipartisan
delegations, with additional visits
planned in 2026. Delegates return
with valuable insights into emergency preparedness, water management, technological innovation, and
homeland security.
At a time when international
relationships are often defined by
uncertainty, the Georgia-Israel partnership offers a different model— one
grounded in practical cooperation
and shared prosperity.
An important addition to this
ecosystem is the Georgia Israel
Business Alliance. Established in
2026, GIBA was created to deepen technological and commercial
ties between Georgia and Israel by
bringing together executives, investors, entrepreneurs and public sector
leaders. The alliance serves as a
catalyst for bilateral growth between
both economies.
Since beginning my tenure in
the Southeast, I am deeply impressed by the grit and drive to
keep Georgia growing to reach its
full potential. From the economic
opportunity to the leading universities and the hospitality and warmth
of the people, Georgia stands out
as an emerging highlight in my two
decades of foreign service representing the state of Israel.
For Georgia, investing in this relationship has yielded real dividends.
For Israel, Georgia has proven to be
a steadfast partner and welcoming
home for innovation. Together, we
look forward to building upon a
shared future— one not limited by
geography, but defined by meaningful investment, enduring friendship,
job creation and a commitment to
improving lives in the Peach State.
Eitan Weiss is the Consul General of Israel to
the Southeastern United States and is responsible to oversee all aspects of Israel’s bilateral
relations with seven states.
