The first-class Cherokee County
Regional Airport just south of the
city of Ball Ground off Interstate
575 is the sixth largest general
aviation airport in the state, with

“Cherokee is an increasingly
rare treasure, with its small-town
lifestyle so close to one of the greatest cities in the world. The mayors
of the five cities and I have begun
working toward a true countywide
vision for the 2050 build-out of our
county,” Johnston said. “Our attractiveness has caused us to grow at
a rate that threatens the quality of
life that makes Cherokee so attractive. We need to control the growth
and steer most of it to the cities
while keeping them reasonably
compact, leaving our rural areas
mostly intact.”
