herokee County
is firmly positioned as one of
the best places in
the state to live,
work, and play.
Home to almost 300,000 residents
with five vibrant and diverse cities,
each with its own appeal and
lifestyle, it is also among the fastest
growing counties in Georgia.
“We have almost everything
going for us in Cherokee. It starts
with our beautiful geography and
climate, and our perfect location literally where metro meets the mountains. We’re close enough to Atlanta
to take advantage of all the opportunity it offers, yet far enough to enjoy
a safe and comfortable small-town
and even rural environment,” Cherokee County Board of Commissioners
Chair Harry Johnston says.
Furthermore, Cherokee offers
homeowners one of the lowest
millage rates in Metro Atlanta,
some of the best public schools in
Georgia and excellent public safety that has earned the county and
its cities the reputation of some of
the safest in the state.
“Our people have demanded
the best, and they’ve gotten it. Most
county services are managed by officials elected directly by the voters,
and our voters have made excellent
choices. We’ve been blessed to have
Sheriff Roger Garrison for six terms
and now Sheriff Frank Reynolds for
three. They’ve built that department
into one of the world’s best,” Johnston emphasizes.
Cherokee County Fire and
Emergency Services recently completed its 25-year build-out from
mostly volunteer to one of the
finest professional departments in
the world. They joined only eight
other Georgia city and county
departments holding prestigious
international accreditations.
A Great Lifestyle
Cherokee is uniquely positioned for those who want to enjoy
an active lifestyle. Nestled in the
foothills of the scenic north Georgia
mountains, its rich natural resources include Allatoona Lake and the
Etowah River. With 50 parks and
more than 65 miles of trails, Cherokee County is perfect for those
seeking an active lifestyle.
“Our Parks Department was
again named best-in-region. And significantly, our voters have entrusted
us with a TSPLOST that will turn a
weakness in local road capacity into
